Tracing these and overlaying LEGO patterns allowed me to reinterpret the subtle curves of the ship with layers of rectangular brick. They provided me with a picture of the nutcracker prop that is used in the performance each year. Using the digital model as a guide, we were able to plan for an interior reinforcing structure made from PVC. The model was constructed around the frame and fused together layer by layer. The challenge with this model was to design it in parts so that I could assemble it as a live build. I built and glued together the shoes, skirt, arms, head, and wings. Working from a digital design, I built the legs, attached the skirt, and built the torso on site. I then used the program Bricksaic to help determine the proportions of the different sections of the face. The challenging part of this build was making the model as lifelike as possible. Making the eyes look off to the side instead of straight ahead was a big success. The flamingo build was unveiled to serve as a centerpiece and to provide inspiration for kids to build animals of their own during the event. Choosing the position of the animal is important because it needs to be structurally sound. Since a flamingo has very skinny legs, building them using LEGO bricks would not provide enough support for the body. Many of Dr. Seuss’ designs feature large, pear shaped bodies and very thin limbs, which are difficult to support and balance the disproportionate weight of the torso and head. My solution was to take the weight off of his legs altogether, and pose him sitting and plotting his holiday heist. The kids joined me at the table and built the snowflakes to add to the picture. I designed the model to be 3D, with the character sticking out from the background. While designing a live build, I always tried to make the part that I would be building on location as simple as possible so that I could focus on interacting with people while building. I built this shield hoping that Chris Evans, who was scheduled to be at the event, would come to our table and sign it. Unfortunately, this event was cancelled due to COVID. The shield is life-sized, based on reference data about the prop found online. I used Microsoft Excel with a grid that was the size of LEGO bricks to help me figure out the curves of the shield. I used the program Bricksaic to design a template, then recreated the picture out of LEGO bricks. Bricksaic only produces a general guideline, which I used to create a rough outline and clean up each section to make a more contrasting and stylized interpretation of the image. She was from Everett, MA and was one of the first 60 players in the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League. She played for the Racine Belles as the third basewoman. The figure design is in an action pose with her standing on a base to help to recreate her softball career. The Encore Casino had been recently completed, and the town had more plans for growth. Bertie and his sister, Bonnie, lead the Factory Tour video and are very safety conscious. We decided to use Bertie as one of the figures to represent the Attraction. For each of these figures I used a mixture of programs. I used LEGO Brick Builder to create the 3D LEGO model and I used Sketchup to help design the interior frame. The primary objective of this project was to remove the existing wood-paneled ceiling and replace it with catwalks and improved acoustical design. Floor plans and a few sections were provided, which I converted to a Sketchup model of the space so that the renovations would be easier to visualize for the designers. I worked on this project as part of my internship at Drummey Rosanne Anderson Architects. The architects at the firm designed the inside and put an addition on the outside as the entrance. I was given the plans, sections, and elevations of the project to create a 3D model to show the design to the client. The assignment was about getting to know the client and designing to their specific needs. The creators of the company gave a presentation about themselves and their design process for building bikes. My design is based on the idea of being able to see the structure of the building like you see the structure on a bike. The trusses are visible inside the building and continue to the outside of the building to create outdoor spaces. For my project I drew diagrams analyzing the threads and colors of the quilts to find ways to make the design into a three-dimensional form. I examined how the different textures were placed and how the threads would continue throughout the quilt and interact with each other. I competed in the first competition at the Boston Public Library in January of 2014. I made it to the top 10, but I did not win. The competition consisted of three timed build rounds where we were given a theme just before building. The challenge was that there was a time limit and we had a limited selection of pieces to work with. I was the MMB at the Boston Attraction from September 2015 to March of 2021.
